Every Saturday there is a large market in the streets of Ceret. Great for everyday shopping as well as gifts or to sit outside one of the many cafes with an espresso and watch the world go by.
Situated 25 minutes from the village, the beach has a large car park and several shops and cafes close by. Our favourite beach. You can also park here and then walk the coastal path to Collioure. It takes about an hour and crosses a couple of beaches before arriving behind the army barracks at the top of the town.
Skiing in the Pyrenees
There are several family resorts within 2 hours of the villas, Font Romeu, Pyrenees 2000 and Les Angles being the three largest.
Gorges de la Fou
A 1500m long narrow gorge in the mountain, with streams, cascades and narrow walk ways.
The lakes at St Jean Pla de Corts (Plan d’eau)
A great place to visit if you don’t fancy the beach. Well maintained areas around the lakes with a life guard in the summer and 2 small cafes. Also pedalos for hire as well as large trampolines and an adventure park in the trees, using ropes, ladders and zip wires across the lake. Also during the summer months is a wake boarding and water skiing centre set up on the large fishing lake adjacent to the main lake. No noisey boats though as it is all operated by wires hung from pylons. Great to watch from the cafe even if you don’t have a go.
Situated on the Villefranche to Vernet les Bains road, these caves are truly spectacular. Worth combining with a visit to Villefranche.
It is possible to watch both codes of rugby in Perpignan, union during the winter months with Usap and league during the summer with the Catalan Dragons.
The Yellow Train
Embark on a journey starting at Villefranche de Conflent that skirts the mountains and climbs upto the ski resorts through tunnels and across narrow bridges and then onwards to Andora. Amazing!
The village bar, that also serves food. Run by Jean Louis, a fervent Usap supporter, where you are always welcome. Also situated in the square is the excellent restaurant 66 sur Vins, with seasonal menus and an extensive wine list, many by the glass.
Place de Neuf Jets
A beautiful square in Ceret where you will find 3 excellent restaurant. A great place to eat outside in the summer, often entertained by local musicians.
On the outskirts of St.Cyprien is the Aqualand waterpark. A great days entertainment, take a picnic, fun for everyone.
Situated in Figueres, 20 minutes over the border into Spain, this museum could be better described as a larger than life exhibition of Salvador Dali’s work.
Cellier de Templiers
The cellars are in Banyuls with free wine tasting and tours available all year round.
The largest man made canyoning centre in Europe. To be found on the D81 from Argeles to St Cyprien. More suitable for brave teenagers and energetic adults. Great viewing area for this and the tree climbing activity centre next door.
